We were pleasantly surprised by the excellent staff and lovely food on offer at this hotel, the pool and Jacuzzi were also lovely and an after dinner stroll in the gardens rounded off our stay beautifully. We booked for Dinner bed and breakfast which was fantastic value. It is quite a long walk into Chester but we got a Taxi back and enjoyed our walk partly along the Canal.
Very tired hotel, the grounds were kept in better condition than the hotel itself. There were insufficienttoiletries in the bathroom. Location good for a quiet nights sleep. Staff friendly and very helpful.
My wife and I stayed at Rowton Hall Hotel and Spa for two nights to attend Carfest 2019 a rare oportunity for a couple of nights away. We arrived after a long journey my wife wanted a drink of water when we got to room 124 to find the cold water tap in the room bathroom wasn't labelled drinking water and there wasn't any water in the room so my wife visited reception who apologised and said there should be and sent two bottles of water to the room.Later that evening we fancied a cuppa to find a shortage of milk, coffee and later toilet paper which required 2 more visits to reception. We then became aware of the room lights not working correctly, I have a background of 40 years in Electrical Engineering and understood this to be due to a wiring error. We also became aware of two ceiling down lights with lamps(bulbs) pushed up into light fittings as though someone had replaced the lamp incorrectly. Rather than cause a stink about it I reported it to reception for adding to the hotel repairs book for the next maintenance visit.Day two after a long day out we returned to the hotel and decided to have a meal then relax in the room watching a bit of TV before turning in. The restaurant food was average at best and we couldn't watch TV because the Freeview TV signal was continually fading to nothing. At this stage 10:30 in the evening we'd had enough and guess what I had to visit reception again and the duty night manager accompanied me to the room where I pointed out all the issues above and three stains on the carpet, he apologised and offered to move us to another room which we declined due to checking out in the morning. He agreed these issues weren't acceptable and explained the hotel had changed hands 5 months previous then referenced a 50% discount which would have to be sanctioned by the general manager. He went to make the call and promised to get back to us in person but didn't, reception called our room at 11pm to inform us a 25% room discount would be applied to our bill which we weren't happy with, I informed the caller we'd discuss the matter in the morning during check out.In the morning we went for breakfast I was given a mushroom omelette which was heavily burnt on the inside suggesting the chef must have known it was burnt when folding it and hoped I wouldn't notice. I raised this during checkout and asked to speak to the duty day manager, whilst waiting another couple approached reception with a complaint about mould found on bread during breakfast so they decided to go elsewhere for breakfast. The day manager turned up and refunded breakfast but was unable to sanction the 50% room discount already suggested by the night manager without discussing the matter with the general manager. At this point I said I'd pay the bill with 25% discount applied and contact the general manager after our journey home and took his business card with me.On arriving home I contacted the general Manager by Email explaining the series of events above supported with photographic evidence, he failed to respond. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and sent the Email a second time but again he failed to respond. So I'm now left with no option but to raise the matter with the owners of this hotel Anderbury Ltd.One thing we must stipulate is the staff at this hotel were excellent. Our advice is don't stay at the Rowton Hall Hotel and Spa choose one of the other hotels in and around Chester rather than go through our experience.
First impressions were good with Reception being friendly and helpful. However, went downhill when we returned as bar staff were poor and bar food was poor quality and value. Rooms had too much furniture which made movement around the room restrictive and no soap or toiletries in one of the rooms.. Breakfast was OK but again service not great, scrambled eggs and uncooked and a pot of tea was delivered stone cold. I would’ve preferred not to post a negative review, however my initial email to the hotel remains unanswered.
A disappointing end to a month long road trip. We were looking for somewhere to relax, unwind and have a peaceful few days. The steam room in the spa was not working when we arrived and was still not fixed when we left. The wi-fi kept logging us out every 5/10 minutes. The dining room menu did not change for the whole of our stay. The kitchen fans were noisy and did not go off until 9.15 each night. The suite was very good but the decor needs refreshing.
